This is the fate that awaits the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxies, but at least none of us will be around to witness it. Intelligent life may still exist in some form by then, but not likely anything that we would recognize as human.

These galactic collisions are beautiful, like some cosmic kinetic sculpture, but they sure don't show evidence of having been designed:
